Review
In case the title doesn't clue you in, this LP is filled with melancholy soul searching. Johnson's song writing is supported by his deep, slightly off-key vocals and beautifully melodic guitar work. It's also brought to life by an incredible ensemble of musicians including J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) on drums and Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees) on bass. The album's opener, "Where Am I?" sets the tone for the entire album--a battle against loneliness and a searching for a place to fit in after all the water has passed under the bridge ("Where am I / I've lost my place again / even with my friends / and I can't see why / where am I"). From there, it's a slow, downward spiral, but a beautiful one at that. --Bill Snyder
