Review

Al Basile's fifth solo CD is a followup to 2005's Blue Ink, which reached #18 on the Living Blues chart. Groovin' in the Mood Room features producer Duke Robillard on guitars and piano, and is another collection of blues and roots originals from singer/writer Basile, who began his career as the first trumpet player in Roomful of Blues, and who has collaborated closely with Robillard throughout his own solo career as cornet player and co-writer on many of Duke's titles. For those who like to get up and dance, this disc boasts deep grooves in 60's blues and roots styles from Memphis to Texas. For those who listen to the words, as always, Basile voice changes character as his lyrics tell stories.
