Review

Spawning like a salmon from the Canadian Rockies comes one of the hardest working bands in all of punk rock: BELVEDERE. These Canadians don't play a brand of punk that leaves the high school girls squealing. Instead of going the way of MTV, they crank it up by playing some solid punk with meaty riffs and tight breakdowns. Blending driving guitars, great harmonies, and raw intensity, Belvedere has been bringing their brand of melodic hardcore punk to fans all over North America.

Formed in 1995, this four-piece has been just about everywhere over the past two years. They are winners of the 1998 Vans Warped Tour Amateur Band Competition, and have toured Canada coast to coast six times supporting bands like Bad Religion and Strung Out.

Their debut CD, Because No One Stopped Us, was released in 1998 on 206 Records here in the United States and on Hourglass Records in Canada. Because of their heavy touring schedule and dedication, that CD has now sold over 5000 units. Their second offering, Angels Live in My Town, has the taken the band even further, selling over 6000 units. Music Corner raves about "Angels…" saying that this "13 track disc takes where Blink 182 left off and adds about 30 pounds of muscle on their rotting carcass."

Belvedere is sure to be one of the most talked about punk bands in the coming future, and this new release from Calgary's finest is only continuing to fuel the fire.
