Review

Bettye LaVette has recently won some long-overdue recognition on these shores, winning a W.C. Handy Award for her 2003 release "A Woman Like Me", and garnering tremendous critical acclaim for 2005's "I've Got My Own Hell to Raise", which led to a guest slot on the Letterman show. But Bettye should have gotten this acclaim 33 years ago, that's when she went to Muscle Shoals to record what was to be her debut album for Atlantic. Entitled "Child of the Seventies", and considered by Bettye to be her best work to date, the album was shelved on the eve of a promotional tour and was NEVER released in America. It appears here at last complete with four Atlantic singles (`My Man') and two other unreleased Atlantic/Atco sides, 22 tracks of superb '70s soul in all. Limited edition of 7500 copies!
