Review

Blake Chen is back! And this time, he not only has old ghosts to repel, but some scary new ones as well. Featuring blood-curdling new versions of Written in Blood and Bad Karma. "They used to go like this," cackles Chen, strumming and plucking skeletal chords on his battered acoustic guitar. "Now they howl and screech and dance like that. These voices refuse to be buried any longer."

"Adding vibrant color to these black-and-white sketches were necessary because of the theme of this album," explains Chen. "The title pays homage to the dancing image, Shadow, evoked by the French poet Blaise Cendrars. Everyone has their personal Shadow, a foreboding image formed not just from their own immediate past but from their ancestral memories as well. These images haunt us in the present and threaten our future. We can either accept them, deny them... or defy them - my favorite course of action! On this album, I'm confronting these demons with music of the past, present and future."
