Review

Puerto Rico-born, Miami-based actor-singer Carlos Ponce is the full multimedia package. Since 1997 he's been a show-stopping entertainer who packs them in on the road, and he's also appeared on the American TV show Beverly Hills 90210 and on several Spanish-language telenovas, or soap operas. This self-titled CD is Ponce's third recording as a leader. It features his torrid tenor backed by the award-winning production team of the Miami Sound Machine kingpins Emilio Estefan and Joel Someillan. With the techo-tropic sounds, Ponce soothes and grooves through songs of love and life, from "Canela," the zesty "Mujer con Pantalones" (which roughly translates as "Woman with Trousers"), and "Concebido sin Pecado," which also happens to be the title of popular Mexican soap opera he stars in.
