Review

Welcome aboard, all ye who love heavy riddims and dubwise roots, Gravitational Dub has entered Dub Central Station! This CD is far from just an "instrumental" album. It's a total destruction and restructuring (in true dub fashion) of some of the most vital songs from Christafari's critically acclaimed Gravity release in addition to a few new crucial roots tracks. Mark Mohr blends soul stirring ambient soundscapes, Spanish, Indian, and other world influences, (while being fully grounded in foundational reggae roots) to give this album a very broad range of sonic flavor. While most of the tracks are instrumental, the original vocal lines are often strategically re-introduced to the mix to orient the listener and give focus to the message of the original track. Sometimes less is more, and often fewer words leave room for the soul to digest the message given. If you liked Gravity, you will LOVE Gravitational Dub! In fact, I like it a little better than the original Gravity album due to the fact that it breathes a bit more (musically) and has a deeper spiritual mysteriousness to it. The Spanish guitar, tablas, sitar, berimbau, Nagaswaram horn, and far east vocal trills are the most notable culprits to the overall world music flavor however the foundation is still clearly reggae. These songs are woven together seamlessly in a true dubwise fashion. It's more than entertainment for your ears, it's a soundtrack for your soul... a must-have for any roots lover. Producer Mark Mohr selected only the most dub-worthy tunes to dissect in his Zionic Sounds Dub Lab. Good dub has to be heavy, and nothing is heavy without gravity. This is the law of Gravity in DUB!
