Review

Coo Coo Cal's Disturbed offers more variety than previous efforts, but his lyrics remain wanting. Beats on the LP come courtesy of Kay-Gees and Big Hank, and though they sometimes contain flashes of originality, for the most part they sound stale and reheated. There's some good collaborations with cats like fellow Midwesterners MC Twista, Koffee Brown, Midwikid, Mr. Do It to Death, Kela, and a few others, but the main reason for digging this joint is Cal's on-point flow and his ability to throw down occasional patches of colorful wordplay. With better production and more-imaginative tales, Cal might just live up to his own hyperbole. --Paul Sullivan
