Review

DJ Beej made his name in the clubs of LA and Orange County, and "The Big Bang" is no departure from the driving house and trance that he mixes at the clubs. Think sweltering heat, pulsing lights, and ringing ears - not languid Sunday afternoons. The tracks that he uses might not be the most avant-garde of selections, but they do achieve their purpose in forcing even the most jaded clubber or raver to start nodding his or her head. Sometimes it's good to just drop the boring pretentiousness and just have fun, and Beej's tracks will make sure that you do. As is expected of a seasoned DJ, Beej knows when to go full throttle and when to pull back a little for a breather, but he doesn't linger in the slower bpms for long. Intense is the word to describe this record, and selections from George Acosta, Warp Brothers, and Marc La Cruz demonstrate this. The track from lesser-known DJ Spoke is one of the more infectious ones in the mix and is a good example of DJ Beej's finely tuned mixing. Anyone that wants a taste of the sex, rhythm, and decadence of clubs on the west coast should try this one out.
