Review

Drawing A Blank's "Unknown Artist" is a fresh and highly polished debut CD on Cleveland Peete Music from the Chicago six piece. With a title like "Unknown Artist," one can safely assume that this group of guys do not take themselves too seriously. Their music, on the other hand, they do take seriously. With honest lyrics and catchy instrumentation, this album will not fall to the bottom of your CD pile.

The album has its share of fast-paced catchy tunes like "Kickstand" and "Distance," but is broken up by a few well-placed slower and very original moments in songs like "Letting Go," "Dear You, Love Me," and "Soundtrack to Life." The lyrics in the songs unfold like short stories, requiring a bit more attention from the listener. The group closes the album with "The Unscrupulous Misadventures of Bea Arthur," definitely a catchy title for a rockin' brewhouse anthem with a Latin feel.

Drawing A Blank's wide range of influences clearly shines through on this CD as well as the honesty with which they approach their music, a refreshing change in the wake of many new bands today.
