Review
Spain's million-record-selling Estopa is the current Latin answer to America's boy-band craze. A little less clean, more husky, sexy, and street-smart, Estopa consists of Barcelona-born brothers David and Jose Manuel Munoz Calvo. Their 12-cut, self-titled debut, now available via domestic release, sallies forth with slick production, packaging, and promotion. Estopa energetically blends pop, rock, and rhumba for their contemporaries. The opening track, "Tu Calorro," is a catchy shake-your-bon-bon-friendly hit and illustrative of what makes them so popular in their home country. Moving from danceable beat to emotive ballad, the devilishly handsome brothers Estopa make music to get a groove on and to moon over, and will quite likely appeal to the audiences of Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin, as well as devotees of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. --Paige La Grone
