Review

Detroit producer Kevin Saunderson, who first brought techno to the attention of the mainstream by producing Inner City's "Good Life," revives his E-Dancer pseudonym for Heavenly. While Juan Atkins worked the science fiction angle as Model 500 and Derrick May's Rhythm Is Rhythm built the prototype for intellectual techno-spiritualism, Saunderson has always focused on the dance floor, whether through the vocal Inner City project, various releases on his seminal KMS label, or his work as E-Dancer. While Inner City is known for the perfect pop song, E-Dancer takes a different approach. The music on Heavenly is uncompromising and intelligent party music; Saunderson's production is atmospheric, bassy, relentless, and defiantly underground. While this material is aimed squarely at the DJ's crate, Heavenly works surprisingly well in your living room. --Matthew CorwineAnother Project from Inner City Mainman Kevin Saunderson.
