Review

One of the all-time titans of the jazz piano, Earl "Fatha" Hines took the stride piano style to a new level, playing unusual accents, right hand octaves, and taking wild chances without losing the beat. His big band was one of the pacesetters of the early 1930s, and he was a brilliant soloist as well. This exciting collection includes the critical cuts from the first third of Hines's 60-year career, focusing on his early days as the king of the great Chicago scene, and featuring both the genius of his solo playing and his recordings at the helm of his wonderful big bands.
