Yann a.k.a. Encre is a great paradox. He is the only one in France to have succeeded in expressing rage and rushes of blood through moving arpeggios and luxuriant arrangements and in impregnating American folks wooden resonance with Autechres industrial overtones. In France no one can really categorize him. Yanns music encompasses Léo Ferré and Jacques Brels songwriting as well as Smogs Folk, Hoods spleen and the most organic avant-electronicas sonic particularities. However, Yann simply writes sad and cheerful, paradoxical and complex songs which he arranges and composes, drifting through rugged landscapes and maladjusted collages, blending delicate organic instrument fragments, complex virtual string parts and untimely computer waste on the same level.
