Review

After opening with the fine and mellow Abacus remix of Chaser's "Blue Planet" and the slinky groove of E.B.E.'s "Serenity," this CD launches into an hour of amazing and relentlessly pumping tracks. Loads of dance discs claim to keep the energy level at 10, but after its relatively easygoing opening, Soma 7 actually delivers. Once the Latin percussion on the Sidewinder remix of Universal Principles' "Flyin' High" kicks in, forget about it. All manner of rhythmic components carry the listener along in an elevated state of mind-body grace for the rest of the CD. A number of tracks manage to creatively tweak sonic effects for minutes on end; whooshes and synth licks get taken to the outer limits. The great beats and delicious array of unidentified sounds on this disc make for a special sort of ecstasy. --Fred CisternaFollow up to 1997's debut 'Technoir.' Overall, 'Dos' combines many styles. From the Detroit influenced string journey of 'The Loquita,' the very jazzy electro flavors of the single 'Desperado,' and the 909 Teutonic harshness of 'Diabla,' through to the US House homage 'Nineteen Ninety-Two,' the Barcelona meets Brazil soundclash 'Obrigado,' and the Miles Davis influenced Spanish flecked finale of 'Sketch of Spain.' It's a great 11-track album of bass rumbling brilliance!
