Review

This 13-song album of songs written by Texas-based singer-songwriter duo Girls With Guitars truly reflects the duo's widely regarded versatility as well as their musicianship. After its pop-flavored opening love song, listeners will journey through blue-grass style tunes, folk ballads, toe-tapping blues numbers, and rock-influenced anthems ... all of which carry food for thought, if you're not too busy just enjoying the music. Stubbornly acoustic in its sound throughout, the album features the twosome's compelling guitar work, including some accomplished lead guitar and classical work by Kelly, and that spellbinding GWG vocal blend born of the fusion of Kelly's husky alto and Ferryn's clear soprano. Adding intrigue to several songs are a few musical guests who sit in on cello, trumpet, fiddle, and congas. Although the common theme running through all of GWG's songs is a celebration of life's journey and hope for the future, they're not afraid to get to that in different ways ... you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll become outraged, and you'll love before the album is over.
