Review
Haggis Piper Down Using their usual Mike Myers-inspired Scottish schtick, Haggis' second disc's title and artwork are an ingenious play on Van Halen's 1982's Diver Down album. The band has improved on the charm of their debut with eight radio-ready slices of pure power pop bliss and a faithful reading of Cheap Trick's Surrender. Haggis' own tunes Humming, Motor Roller, Domino and the tremendous Turpentine can stand toe-to-toe with the CT classic they sometimes perform live and that's no small potatoes. The songs (and there's not one bad apple in the bunch, though Uphill Climb is not quite as tasty as the rest) are crisp, short and sweet, and Brian Talenti's bracing voice is way up in the mix - just as it should be. With punchy guitars and driving rhythms powering instantly ear-catching tunes, Haggis is quickly becoming a pop 'n' roll juggernaut. Grade - "A-" Get Out Magazine Thomas Bond 11/4/99
