Review

"Long Way Home", the awesome 8th disc from INDIGENOUS, featuring premier Native American blues/rock axeslinger/vocalist, Mato Nanji, is an outstanding musical document of classic, powerful, REAL blues/rock heavy guitar power trio grooves that are guaranteed to rock your blues away. Long Way Home is an excellent follow-up to their great self-titled disc released a few years back. INDIGENOUS drew critical acclaim in 1997 with their independently released disc titled Things We Do and, since then, theyve grown their following through steady recording and touring. Consisting of brothers Mato Nanji (guitar/vocals) and Pte (bass/backing vocals) along with their sister Wanbdi (drums/backing vocals), this Native American power trio live the blues family style. Blood is thicker than water and it shows in their awesome deep bluesy music. INDIGENOUS lays down songs with deep grooves and plenty of passion led by the way-kool bluesy heavy guitar swagger of guitarist Mato Nanji whos scorching lead guitarwork and soulful deep-pitched vocals are showcased on every tune. Mato calls to mind S.R.Vs masterful guitar attack, reaching similarily combustible levels of intensity while maintaining total command over the instrument. Mato Nanji is no mere S.R.V. wannabe clone but the REAL thing when it comes down to authentic guitar hero status. Fans of awesome guitar-driven blues/rock riffage searching for the next torch bearer in the lines of JIMI and S.R.V. should definitely give INDIGENOUS a serious listen. Excellently produced by Jesse Davey (HOAX guitarist), the talented guitarist/producer captured an awesome raw, stripped-down, live in the studio approach on the Long Way Home disc. Both Jesse and the band nailed down an outstanding set of REAL amped-up blues/rock riffage with fire and passion. A highlight on the disc is a mega-awesome low-dwon, deep, burning 8 minutes slow minor blues riff monster called Six Feet Down which will satisfy even the most hardcore blues/rock heavy guitar freak. Brother Mato digs deep on this awesome jam and conjurs the spirit of JIMI HENDRIX and STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN with his killer blues/rock guitar explosion. The INDIGENOUS: "Long Way Home" disc is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to fans of JIMI HENDRIX, S.R.V., ROBIN TROWER, JOHNNY WINTER, RORY GALLAGHER, CLAPTON, THE HOAX, DOYLE BRAMHALL, JOE BONAMASSA, WARREN HAYNES, WALTER TROUT, CHRIS DUATRE, KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD, CRAIG ERICKSON, BUDDAHEADS, SKY HIGH with CLAS YNGSTROM, LANCE LOPEZ, VARGAS BLUES BAND, CHRIS AARON, VAN WILKS, MONTI AMUNDSON & THE BLUBINOS etc. and just about any other killer blues/rock axeslingers you have ever heard. INDIGENOUS is the "REAL" deal and Mato Nanji is definitely rite up there with the best of them. It's time to get "REAL" and take an awesome "musical ride" with Mato Nanji and his killer band INDIGENOUS. If you dig smokin blues/rock guitar and soulful vox backed up by great songs and playing, tune into the the Long Way Home disc and experience the heavy guitar blues power of Mato Nanji & INDIGENOUS.
