Review

"J Why & Julz A's 'Urban Shocker' is mordant, funny, edgy, in your face, and more than most of what you hear, alive," writes Fred Frith in his liner notes for the duo's debut CD. All of the sounds on the album were recorded in public spaces in New York City. Samples were culled from the original tapes, then sculpted and molded into rhythmic and textural compositions that take the Illbient genre to its extreme.
