Review
Jaz Klash is a fascinating drum & bass experiment led by a female DJ from Los Angeles known as the Angel. Cowritten and coproduced by the English duo More Rockers (who are also members of Smith & Mighty), this fluid, dreamy experiment integrates live jazz instrumentation with the prime elements of modern electronica. While Rob Smith and Peter D of More Rockers certainly add a great deal to the proceedings, it is the Angel's inventiveness that stands out on this release. The Angel channels the melodic jazz improvisations of musicians such as Jacky Terrason and Brian Auger through a series of urban beats and More Rockers' resourceful rhythm designs. In so doing, she shows the ability to hold her own with any DJ on the planet. --Mitch Myers
