The instant a rich, knowing baritone voice declares, "They call me the Lonely Traveler" at the outset of this sterling collection of down-home acoustic blues songs, it's understood that Jimmie Lee Robinson has been around. Born in Chicago in 1931 to parents who were native Mississippians, Robinson spent most of his career playing guitar and bass for Freddie King, Elmore James, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Jr. Lockwood, and Jimmy Reed. After successfully touring Europe, he retired to his cab business, then reappeared in 1994 as a solo artist with his acclaimed comeback CD on Delmark, Lonely Traveler. His fourth solo effort, Remember Me, provides raw, intimate proof of the enduring power and truth of blues testimony. With stunning voice and guitar, Robinson covers the landscape from Charley Patton ("The Boll Weevil") to Muddy Waters ("Rollin' & Tumblin'") and Lowell Fulson ("Three O'Clock in the Morning") brilliantly, never erring. --Alan Greenberg
