Review

The hottest fiddler in the music-rich history of West Virginia, young John Johnson (1916-1996) was at the peak of his power in 1947. That year, folklorist Louis Chappell came to Strange Creek, Braxton County, to capture Johnson's legendary music on an aluminum-disc recording machine. Johnson reeled off 80 pieces for the professor, in a dazzling display of power, imagination and grace. This CD makes part of that session available to the public for the first time.
