At times elegantly sensual, often energetically upbeat with a decidedly modern feeling, Crossing the Line is a soothing and exciting exploration of mood, melody, and rhythm that somehow manages to be relaxing and energizing simultaneously. John Polito's debut instrumental album is a marriage of traditional classical training and an instinctive feel for melodic jazz, enriched and enlivened by cross-cultural influences and global awareness. A union of tranquil and euphoric moods, contemporary jazz and other complementary genres, traditional background and improvisational instinct, Crossing the Line is quite a journey; like any maiden voyage into new territory, it will leave you breathless, but ultimately at home.
