About Westerns

Jon Chandler's WESTERNS includes 15 original songs of the historic and contemporary West. Writing and performing in country music styles that include western, bluegrass, folk, traditional country, and Americana, Chandler's acclaimed storytelling ability is showcased in each song. Many of the collection's songs are spare, with Chandler's trademark vocals and solitary guitar carrying the load. On others, he's backed by many of the finest country musicians in America, including members of Nashville's vaunted "A-Team," and aided by country/western stalwarts including Mollie O'Brien and Baxter Black. Chandler manages to capture the unique dicotomy of the American West; a singular mixture of simplicity and complexity that incorporates both the high mountains and the wide prairies. WESTERNS is a postcard from the West, an examination of the people and places known as Western. It's as if Cormac McCarthy wrote and performed music. Included are two exceptional versions of the theme song to Chandler's 1999 Western Writers of America-Award winning novel, The Spanish Peaks.
