Review
Leadbelly exhibits considerable power in this 16-song collection overseen in the recording stage by legendary folklorist John A. Lomax. A number of Huddie Ledbetter staples--"C.C. Rider," "Alberta," and "Black Snake Moan" among them--are tackled with the verve that made the 12-string guitarist a sensation in boho circles in the 1930s and 1940s. --Steven Stolder
