Review

Over six albums on four indie labels, Washington, D.C. native Lida Husik has explored wildly different corners of the musical map. She's dabbled in trip hop (1996's Green Blue Fire), psychedelic rock (1993's The Return of Red Emma), straightforward guitar pop (1995's Joyride), and now all of the above plus a touch of lounge exotica. Husik sings and plays guitar and keyboards on a dozen delicious and eclectic tunes, including the punning "Soundman," the Robert DeNiro tribute "Cape Fear," the autobiographical "Fade Sister Cool," and the loving homage to the boyfriend who makes her "Cafe con Leche." In fact, the whole album is a sweet and caffeinated treat. --Jim Derogatis
