Michel MARRE BRASS BAND is a large band composed of sixteen musicians dedicated body and soul to brassed-jazz. With the master of ceremony, a talented trumpettist coupled with an also talented tuba player many varied instruments are represented: crotales, djembes, bombard, sourdo and wind-bass in association with more traditional saxophones, trumpet or percussions. It is noticeable that famous saxophonist Doudou GOUIRAND took part to this project. Re-released by the Great Winds label, "Mindelo" (1990) unveils a tortured instrumental jazz strongly influenced by Miles DAVIS and the African continent. It can evoke works of Chris McGREGOR BROTHERHOOD OF BREATH. Here is a welcome re-discovery for fans of jazzy music walking out of the beaten tracks...
