Review

Gripping vocals, pure poetic lyrics and hard hitting melody is the explosive core of Mike Youngers sophomore effort, Every Stone You Throw Every Stone You Throw is a Rock & Roll record that draws heavily from the Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Gospel and Country, but through arrangement and production is rendered undeniably contemporary. The songs speak to the issues of the day, ranging from the topical to the personal, taking the listener on a vivid journey through the writers struggle to remain steadfast in his devotion to his art despite the obstacles thrown in his path by life, the business and the social upheavals of the times. With rich instrumentation by an amazing band of seasoned players, this record combines the approach of the classic 60s folk singers with the punch of contemporary rockers like Springsteen and Mellencamp, crafting a tightly produced, hook-laden rock album appealing to indie, folk, rock and pop fans alike. The players that make up The Mike Younger Group are Louie Appel on drums (John Eddie, Debbie Gibson, Southside Johnny), Skip Ward on bass (Angela McCluskey, The Wild Colonials) and Bob Packwood on piano and keys (Oh Susanna, Tandy, The Yayhoos, Eric "Roscoe" Amble, Liz Tormes, The Damnwells, Rebecca Hall, The Dark Horses & Mary Lee Kortes.).
