If the ultra-slick, pre-packaged-for-the-masses sounds coming out of your radio leave you wanting a little more substance out of your music, it's time for a little Morrigan. The ten songs on "Unbearably Sweet" make for a lush and satisfying listen; Morrigan's intelligent songwriting and masterful singing are at once soothing and enthralling. Melodic, emotive, and lyrically fascinating, this is folk music like you've never heard it before. Be careful where you listen to this CD--by the time the subtle, native rhythm of the third track "This Girl," draws you in, you will have forgotten whatever it was you were doing. Morrigan's expressive alto shimmers throughout, from brilliant harmonies on the title track "Unbearably Sweet," to gentle whispers on the tender ballad "Flood." Also listen for a distinctively absorbing piano instrumental.
