Review

Only Living Witness' second album, Innocents, was one of the best loud rock records of 1996. Released by a label best known for its roster of European death metal, it was positively exploding with the kind of relentless, groovy riffs that would make Corrosion of Conformity green with envy. Only Living Witness eschew typical metal excesses, opting for head-down intensity and good old-fashioned ass-kicking. Sabbath may have been its archetype, but the band certainly drew its sound from punk's economy and rage as well. Unfortunately OLW broke up shortly after this release, leaving this final, amazing record as its legacy. --Adem Tepedelen
