Review

ORIGINAL FORMULA-SOUND DOCTRINE-Melody Man Records, MM-03CD. Original Formula is a stimulating gospel duet consisting of Alton Elliott (guitar and vocals) and Robert Perkins(lead guitar and vocals). Their vocal blending harkens back to other duets like the Blue Sky Boys or the Louvin Brothers. The title of this production was inspired by Biblical scripture in Titus 2:1, "But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine." Al and Rob share the lead vocals throughout the 15 selections which include "Seek Jesus," "Let the Spirit Descend," "Never Grow Old," the Rambo's "Thank You For The Valley" and a lesser known Don Reno and Red Smiley piece, "Passing Of Time." One conspicuous highlight is Robert Perkins's performance of his compisition, "You're The One." For those who treasure traditional gospel music, "Original Formula" is an offering that should not be overlooked.
