Review

Mister Bad Luck is Oscar Jordan's first full-length blues CD and features a wide array of blues styles from slow blues to rockin' blues, from jazzy blues, to acoustic blues.

Jordan is a singer and guitarist with a considerable amount of talent whose fretwork can indeed cover many styles. Whether he's doing a little bit of Chicago style on the opening track "It's The Truth," or on "You Better Run," a searing slow-tempo blues tune that allows Jordan to demonstrate some impressive wah infused soloing.

One of the more interesting cuts here is "The One That Got Away," a jazzy Miles Davis influenced track with some terrific trumpet work from Timothy Chokan. "Hey Now Baby!" is a jump blues number that would do T-Bone Walker and Louis Jordan proud. Jordan also gives us a taste of his acoustic chops on the closing track, "Christmas Day."

Jordan demonstrates some intricate fretwork throughout this release, but maybe what is most impressive is that he understands that more is not necessarily better. Mister Bad Luck is an impressive debut effort packed with equal parts punch and class. One suspects that we will be hearing more from Oscar Jordan in the future.
