Review

If possible, this album covers an even wider range than Quartetto Gelato's debut. This time they play and sing selections from Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana (hence the album title), a little-known capriccio for oboe and strings by Ponchielli, a Hungarian csardas, Ibert's Entr'acte, and some even more unusual items. It's quite a mixed bag, but it's held together by the ensemble's excellent musicianship and sense of fun. This might be a very good gift for people who don't think they like classical music, since it's so approachable, but classical music fans will enjoy it too. --Leslie Gerber
