Todo y Nada: in a word, Montaner is more the former. This recording contains everything fans have come to expect from this accomplished singer, who was born in Argentina and raised in Venezuela. Modern rhythms mingle effortlessly with classic arrangements, shimmering strings, and gentle drums. It's all grounded by Montaner's uniquely emotive voice, still supple after more than 20 years of recording. "Nada" shimmers in an acoustic rendition, and "Mal de Amor" is a sprightly, tropical moment. Elsewhere, "Hablan" conjures images of candlelit nights. It's the type of musical diversity that has typified Montaner's strongest discs, and it has also kept him relevant in the face of so many disposable (less talented) pop heartthrobs.
