Review

Fans of Pedro Almodovar's exuberant filmmaking will recognize Rosario from her role in the director's Talk to Her. But in her native Spain, Rosario is better known for her massively popular pop records than for her acting chops. The follow-up to Muchas Flores--the singer's 2001 blockbuster--De Mil Colores underscores the most precious asset in Rosario's music: a deliciously raspy voice that seduces you instantly with its rambunctious personality. A versatile performer, Rosario tackles with equal command a sassy rock number ("Vueltas"), a hilarious flamenco fest ("Los Tangos de mi Abuela"), and a quintessentially Spanish reading of Arsenio Rodriguez's Cuban bolero "La Vida Es Un Sueno." Lovers of quality pop music will appreciate the tasty touches of acoustic guitar, the ever present handclapping, the restrained brass section. This is the kind of album that is mellow enough to serve as background music--yet packed with enough punch to make you sit up and pay attention to its most inspired passages. --Ernesto Lechner2003 Album from the Star of Almodovar's Hit Movie Hable Con Ella and Daughter of Lola Flores. The Spanish Singer also Participated in the Late Celia Cruz's Tribute Show.
