Review

The early-'90s phase of this once-great reggae toaster's career story reads like a scary reggae fable, a cautionary tale for aspiring artists warning that the dance hall is a fickle place where today's sensation can turn out to be yesterday's one-hit wonder. As Shabba warns in "Mus Haffi Learn," "Listen to Shabba / save what you earn." But that fat lady hasn't sung yet, Shabba seems to be saying in tunes like "Can't Keep Me Down." This collection of past hits spiced with remixes and a few new tunes evokes Shabba's glory days, when his distinctive warm baritone blanketed a reggae rhythm like no other.
