Led by former Blue Man Group drummer, Steve Wilkes, Six Drumsets debuted in 1994 at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Playing rhythms that span the scope of modern percussionWorld Beat, Hip-Hop, Jungle, Jazz, Rock, Electronic Techno, Ambientthe group creates drums that sing.
Steve Wilkes is the drummer for the world renowned Empire Brass Quintet, and a Berklee College of Music Professor. As a recipient of the Japan Foundation Uchida Fellowship, Steve traveled throughout Asia in 1991 and1994. His studies with the legendary Japanese Taiko troupes Kodo, O Gion Daiko and particularly Seido Kobayashi and O Edo Sukeroku Taiko inspired him to build a band around the indigenous backbeat of the modern world: the drumset. Six Drumsets released their debut, self-titled CD in 1997 and will be releasing it's follow-up, Simmer, on April 2nd, 2002. This CD was produced by Steve with co-production and engineering by Rob Jaczko
