Review

Former Frente frontwoman Angie Hart and ex-Alanis axeman Jesse Tobias team up to fashion an album ripe with simple, graceful pop tunes. In many ways, Splendid act as an extension of Hart's former Aussie combo. The songs are driven by either acoustic guitar or subdued electric six-string work, with subtle electronic touches filling out the mix. As ever, Hart's sweet and innocent vibe throws you off guard, especially when she bluntly addresses relationships. Have You Got a Name for It sometimes cries out for more energy, which the band delivers on the perky folk-rocker "Work Cut Out for You" and the unexpectedly rockin' hidden track.
