Review

Stare Dobre Malzenstwo have been around awhile with at least eight albums of their unique style of tender folk music. Czarny Blues is their all-time bestselling release, filled with cozy, melancholy songs made from guitar, violin, bass, and occasional harmonica. "Przechyla Sie" (that's "pshehiwa sheh") is a lovely, brief number featuring this combo's light, nimble touch and comely harmonies. "Zawirowat Swiat" is a sweet, lilting tune with pastoral highlights and beautiful female background vocals, while "Wygladaja Przez Okno" haunts with an aching violin and descending vocal pattern. This is a CD that has long pleased the listeners of Poland and just may be the newest little gem in any American folk listener's collection. --Karen Karleski
