After two well-chilled compilations in the Deepdown Tempos series, Upstairs Recordings is proud to present its first album-length artist CD - TELEFUZZ's 'sleep'. The man at the dials, the Lewis Carroll of modern music, is none other than Don Verbrilli. And 'sleep' is nothing less than an 'Alice in Wonderland' for the ears. Beginning with the song titles, it is clear that the album is more concerned with being literary than contemporary. Tired of the conventions of modern electronic music, free-falling in the soulless, themeless, mindless void of the rabbit hole, Verbrilli has turned to influences of the past for inspiration - not all of them musical. This CD has concept to it, may force listeners to think, laugh, frown, make judgments. It takes risks, is quirky, has imperfections. It's human, musical, made for listeners. It's psychedelic, vision-inducing music, sparse and spaced out at times, thick and dripping off the edge at others. It is multi-coloured and multi-textured, full of characters and stories, images and ideas. It does not reveal itself all at once, but instead requires patience, peace...and a pillow.
