Review

Mr. Bongo release for the under-appreciated folk/jazz legend who was dicovered by Chess Records arranger Charles Stepney in the early sixties. The artist remained a cult act for many years despite working with Prestige label producer Samuel Charters, Jerry Butler, The Dells (he penned their smash 1972 hit 'The Love We Had Stays on My Mind') and Beth Orton (another of his most vocal supporters). This UK only release is a collection of live material recorded at London's infamous Jazz Cafe in 1998 & 2000. Tracks, 'Ordinary Joe', 'Step Into The Light', 'Lazurus Man', 'Lament For The Late A.D.', 'African Violet', 'You're Gonna Miss Your Candy Man', 'What Colour Is Love', 'Dancing Girl', 'People Get Ready' & 'I Don't Wanna See Myself'. 2001 release. Digipak.Collection of live material recorded at London's Jazz Cafe in 1998, alongside three brand new tracks lifted from Terry Callier's last show at the Jazz Cafe in Nov. 2000.
