Review

The rousing performance by The Souls Of The Sea Band at a concert called Benefish is captured in this memorable CD. The purpose of the concert was to raise funds for organizations which support and benefit commercial fishermen, their families and their heritage. Listen and become part of the new awareness of the real American Cowboy, the commercial fisherman. In the whole history of the American work force there's been no group more rugged, more daring, tougher, or more productive and entrepreneurial than commercial fishermen. These intrepid individuals never receive wages for their work. They get a "share"of the catch after expenses. If expenses are not met the crew gets nothing, it's a "broker". The system is hard, often unfair, but is pure American capitalism, where risk and difficulty and danger are ever-present obstacles, where success requires an incredible degree of skill, ingenuity, knowledge, and teamwork. The ideal symbol of American self-reliance is the Commercial Fisherman.
