Review

With an all-star lineup including Doug Dillard, Clarence White, Hoyt Axton, Ry Cooder, and Jim Keltner, Arlo seemed hungry to make the first mature album his career had been pointing towards. He turned to a classic batch of folk songs from his father and his contemporaries: Steve Goodman's "City of New Orleans," Dylan's "When the Ship Comes In," and Woody's "1913 Massacre," which is a surprisingly fine fit for Arlo's trembling, wiry voice. A classic country-folk sound and one of Arlo's most realized efforts. --Roy Francis Kasten
