Review

A true master of American folk/country song and veteran performer returns after a lengthy recording hiatus with one of the finest CDs of his illustrious career. A vibrant mix of terrific new songs, traditional songs and Folk Revival classics, Staines is clearly in a reflective state of mind here, but there is nothing sentimental or maudlin in his song choices. Highlights include the stunning new song "A Rancher Turns 80" and his four covers of songs by old friends from his younger days when he was a stalwart of Boston's legendary Club 47 music scene. His take on Mary McCaslin's "Prairie in the Sky" alone is worth the price of admission.
