Mackenzie is Reported to Be the Subject of the Smiths' Song "William, it was Really Nothing". (Furthering the Rumours, Mackenzie's Band the Associates Subsequently Recorded a Song Entitled "Stephen, You were Really Something".). Billy Mackenzie's Career Started When the Associates were Formed in 1979 in Edinburgh. They were Initally a Duo Performing Standards and Soul Covers, Billy Mackenzie and Alan Rankine. By 1982, They'd Had Three Hit Singles and Two Critically-acclaimed Albums 'the Affectionate Punch' and 'sulk' - However They Went their Separate Ways Towards the End of the Year. Mackenzie Continued under the Associates Name with Various Musicians, Releasing a Number of Albums Through the 1980s. 'wild and Lonely' was the Last Album under the Associates Name, Released in 1990. Two Years Later in 1992, Mackenzie Released his First Solo Record in Name. Includes 'pastine Paradise', a Rather Interesting Reggae-tinged Take on 'gangsta's Paradise'!
