Review

BLUSH is a contradiction, not unlike the title of their debut album CROWDED ALONE. They chose to set up shop right on the fine line separating black and white. They thrive in the grey areas, but dip into the extremes when it suits them. From the beautiful melodies of TRIP YOU'RE ON, to the screaming war sirens of NUMB, the songs diversity are credible in emotion, melody and thought content. The tongue in cheek wit of THINGS BEST LEFT UNSAID tempers the biting social commentary of (their first single) WORD FROM THE WISE, only to land on the cold logic of BASIC PHYSICS. Each song a journey unto itself. The contradictions in Blush's music, no doubt stem from their divergent influences. A cocktail blend of Zeppelin, King's-X and Peter Gabriel could only end up some place interesting, to say the least. Blush landed where passion meets aggression and melody has no fear of girth. Drawing inspiration from some of the world's finest writers of pop and rock, the band successfully managed to create a sound that is truly unique. After heading into the studio with Juno-award winning producer Brandon Friesen, the boys of Blush found themselves on the receiving end of some strong industry buzz. Friesen's renowned production skills fit in perfectly with the band's rich rock'n'roll soundscapes, tapping into the depth and emotion of the songs. The debut album, CROWDED ALONE was released Nov. 4 / 03. Since that time the band has retained the services of Howard Rosen Promotion to further they're reach to a North American audience. The reception so far has been very encouraging. WORD FROM THE WISE is gaining momentum being added to no less than 120 Canadian and US radio stations, charting in several. (#1 in St. Louis!) From that exposure, came a call from an independent film maker with Fire Watch films in Toronto. After excepting a vivid and ambitious treatment from director, Billy Dunlop, Blush will commence shooting in April of 2004. For more on Blush...
