Review

One of the few roots singers who stayed current during reggae's deejay (rapper)-dominated '80s dancehall era, Cocoa T has risen to a position of reverence during this decade, wherein girls and God are due praises in equal measure. Still, Cocoa T's husky tenor evokes the sound and image of the quintessential Rastaman, as do original compositions such as the hit single that opens this set--"Mr. Neck Tie Man," yet another indictment of "Babylonian" signs and symbols. Not the least of this recording's many attributes is executive producer Philip "Fatis" Burrell's work, featuring such behind-the-scenes musical luminaries as Sly Dunbar, Steven Stanley, Dean Frazer, Althea, and reggae's favorite singer, Luciano. --Elena Oumano
