Review

An air of desperation haunts Everything Is Dead and Gone, Crocodile Shop's fifth full-length CD. It's not that this journeyman industrial band suffers from a lack of inventive rhythm programming or an inability to lay down an effective bass-synth groove (the minimum requirements of any decent industrial-dance band) but that they seem bereft of ideas. As a ruse, the disc is loaded with bells and whistles, including many haphazardly tossed-in been-there-done-that B-movie voice clips, the last refuge of gearheads with close-cropped hair, black leather jackets, and samplers. But, as if to prove everything isn't dead and gone, Crocodile Shop throw in a few winners, including the well-sequenced "Useless" and the retro "Getogether" and "Fault." A safe buy for fans of the genre, but not a disc destined to take pride of place next to your old :Wumpscut: and Front Line Assembly albums. --Steve Landau
