Review

With countless forms of reggae bubbling up and into the public's vision, roots reggae has almost been forgotten these last few years. Perhaps that's what makes this assembly of extended versions, dub mixes, and alternated takes so refreshing. Led by Joseph Hill, a vocalist whose main objective is to integrate his sly, liquid voice into the very fabric of the music, Culture's reggae is no-nonsense, and for the most part, bare bones. Even their dubs are remarkable, stripped of the techno bells and whistles so prevalent in dub today. Culture have never been about flash, and on Production Something, flash is never missed. Not even for a second. --S. Duda
