Another collection of gems from this amazingly prolific singer's Joe Gibbs era. Visions is every bit as compelling as Words Of Wisdom. Brown's voice here is straight, unaffected, and profoundly soulful. Never one to sing silly love songs or use music as an escape from the asphyxia of everyday life, Brown touches on a broad range of experience in "Deliverance Will Come," "Oh Mother," "Love Me Always," "Concrete Castle Kings," "Repatriation," and "Milk And Honey"--always honing in on illuminating truths and rendering them beautifully human. In Brown's hands, even the counsel to a rebellious girl of "Stay at Home" and the rebuke to rumor-mongers in "Say What You Say" take on the stature of myth. --Elena Oumano
